    Hey Guys,

I have the strategy guide and even with it i have no chance...I've even had all of my party reach their overdrived before fighting the crawler and negator, and it still hasnt worked...if i try to power up my party, they easily get killed by the enemies in Macalania lake...i just dont know what to do...

oh yeah, and i started a new game in a different game save of course, and now i'm stuck on the Al Bhed machina when i'm crossing the moonflow on the shoopuff. all of my party is like this: Lulu skill level 30, Yuna Skill Level 29, Tidus Skill Level 29, Auron skill Level, 20, Kimarhi skill level 25, Wakka skill level 28. I need to use HASTE to defeat this enemy, but i cant on the Sphere Grid. What can i do to defeat this enemy as well? Please help, guys.

Final Fantasy X

Lake Macalania
Walkthrough

Lake Macalania is the area you reach in the Macalania Woods after you have defeated Spherimorph and have move north from where the Save Sphere was located.

Lake Macalania - Agency Front

You have reached another of Rin’s Travel Agencies. Start off by grabbing the Al Bhed Primer (Vol. XVI) that is sitting on the ground to the left of the entryway. Buy any items that you may need from O’aka XXIII.

Another reminder that Hi-Potions are now purchasable at the shop so stock up on some if you need them.

Obtaining Al Bhed Primer vol. XV at the Travel Agency near Lake Macalania
Purchasing Hi-Potions at Lake Macalania

Walk over and talk to Clasko with his Chocobo to get the story moving again. He will ask you what job you see him doing: Chocobo Knight or Chocobo Breeder. If you select the Chocobo Breeder option you will run into Clasko later on in the game as the keeper of the Chocobos on the S.S. Liki.

Note: You cannot grab the treasure chest behind Clasko and his Chocobo until later on in the game.

Drop in to the Travel Agency and save your game at the Save Sphere before you continue.

Speaking to Clasko and describing him as a Chocobo Breeder or a Chocobo Knight

Exit the Agency and travel west following the red arrow on the mini-map. You will be interrupted with a cutscene involving Tromell Guado discussing Maester Seymour’s quick disappearance in Guadosalam. Yuna will leave with Tromell Guado and will be ambushed by Al Bhed just up ahead.

Make sure that you and your party are ready for the next boss battle before you rush in. Yuna will not be participating in this battle (again). You have one more opportunity to go back to the Travel Agency to save or purchase items if you need to before you initiate the fight.

Equip any weapons you possess currently that have the Lightningtouch ability before you jump into the fray.

Lake Macalania - Crevasse

Grab the treasure chest just outside of Macalania Temple. It contains a Mega-Potion.

Macalania - Road

The Al Bhed soldier at the bottom of the stairs will give you 400 gil if you talk to her. Follow the pathway all the way around and head into the temple.

Macalania - Hall

Save your game at the Save Sphere again before you continue. Talk to Tromell and he will give you a Shell Targe. The Shell Targe is not a very good shield. The SOS Shell ability only activates when Rikku reached a critically low level of health.

Check out the Equipment Abilities section for more information on different abilities for weapons.

Melinda will rush over to greet you as soon as you enter the temple. There is a treasure chest at the back of the left side of the temple that contains 5,000 gil. There is another treasure chest on the opposite side of the temple, towards the camera’s location, that contains two X-Potions.

Attempt to walk up the steps and the team will be interrupted by one of the temple acolytes on the lower floor. The group will get to watch another sphere, this time involving Lord Jyscal.

There is a treasure chest at the back of the room that contains two Remedies. Talk to the person closest to the chest to receive two Hi-Potions and then exit the room to continue the story.

Save your game and buy any items you need from O’aka XXIII as there is a boss battle incoming. At this point it should become pretty clear that O’aka XXIII is following you around!

The next boss battle begins as soon as the previous boss battle concludes. It involves battling Maester Seymour’s Aeon, Anima, which is the one that you witnessed defeating all of the fiends in Luca.

HP: 18,000

At the start of the battle Tidus will suggest that Yuna summon her new Aeon. The new Aeon will be called ‘????’ under Yuna’s summons (it’s Shiva).

You can use Blizzara on Shiva at any time to heal her HP back up to full health. Continue to heal Shiva until you can use her Overdrive ability, Diamond Dust, and then use that attack on Anima. Continue this pattern until Anima (or ????) is defeated. Use Diamond Dust while Anima is boosting to increase the amount of damage that it does.

Boss battle against Anima
Using Shiva against Anima

“????” (Shiva) will likely die at some point in the fight. Hammer away at Anima with regular attacks to bring her (yes, it’s a she) down and be sure to keep your HP as high as possible as Anima’s Overdrive is pretty much an instant kill and a game over. Anima’s Pain move will also be an instant kill on one of your party members.

Have Auron use Magic Break on Seymour once Anima has been defeated and have Lulu use her Bio spell to poison him if you have access to it.

Steal:
Silence Grenade (common)
Farplane Shadow (rare)

Drops:
Ability Sphere

Save your game at the Save Sphere at the conclusion of the fight. Go through the doorway on the left side next to the Save Sphere to enter the Macalania Cloister of Trials:

Macalania - Hall

Descend down the stairs for another short cutscene involving Tromell Guado and a group of people in the temple.

Macalania - Road

Buy any items that you need from O’aka XXIII and then save your game at the Save Sphere.

You will be chased by Guado Guardians as you proceed down the pathway and you will be thrown into a battle each time one catches you. They run faster than Tidus so a few battles are inevitable.

Meeting up with O’aka XXIII outside of the Macalania Temple
Tidus escaping from the Guado Guardians

The Guado Guardians that you face are similar to the ones you saw during the fight with Seymour. They use the Auto-Potion ability to automatically heal themselves for 1,000 HP after every time they take damage so use Rikku’s Steal ability to prevent them from using this ability.

Monster battle outside of Lake Macalania

Lake Macalania - Crevasse

You won’t have the luxury of the Machina to traverse the crevasse as speedily this time. Choose to continue south (or to the right) when you reach the first fork in the road. Following this path will lead to a treasure chest that contains a Lv. 1 Key Sphere.

Tidus traversing the Lake Macalania Crevasse
Lv. 1 Key Sphere in the Lake Macalania Crevasse

Save when you come across the one more Save Sphere as you have a boss battle coming up.

Lake Macalania - Lake Bottom

Save your game at the Save Sphere once the fight has concluded. Talk to each of your party members to continue the story.

Make sure to go back and grab the two treasure chests behind the characters you spoke to. One contains a Lv. 2 Key Sphere (beside Kimahri as shown below) and the one at the back by Auron contains an Avenger, a weapon for Tidus that has the Counterattack ability.

After Lake Macalania, obtaining Avenger
Obtaining a Lv. 2 Key Sphere under Lake Macalania

Speak to Auron to continue the story and then approach the party one more time. Sin will attack the party again at the end of the sequence. There are a few more flashback scenes involving Tidus back in Zanarkand before Tidus wakes up all by himself in a pool of water (again). Are you noticing a theme?

The next portion of the game takes place on Bikanel Island in the Sanubia Desert.

  • Treasures: 2,000 Gil, Phoenix Down (x3), Remedy.
  • Key Items: Al Bhed Primer Vol. 15

After the event with Auron, join up with the rest of the party again and take the path to the left (the right side is unavailable at this point). Get the two treasure chests --  one with a weapon for Lulu and the other with 2,000 Gil. At the central section of the woods, get the Phoenix Down (x3) in the treasure chest and continue to the end. A figure in a bird costume under a tree teaches the Butterfly Hunt mini-game.

Moving on to the northern portion of the woods, follow the path and claim a Remedy from the treasure chest in the corner. In the grass on the road to the right is the Al Bhed Primer Vol. 15. O'aka is here again and it's a good idea to replenish your items for the upcoming boss fight. Continue up the road a short distance to an automatic event in which Auron opens up a new section where the boss Spherimorph appears.

Kimahri can also learn the Aqua Breath Overdrive by using Lancet on a Chimera monster.

This is a pretty simple battle. Just use magic with an element opposite to what Spherimorph is using. Have Lulu, Yuna and Auron manage this fight. Whenever you damage it with magic of the opposing element, its element shifts. So have Auron attack to find out what the element is and simply use the opposite. That's about it.

Watch the Jecht Sphere. These spheres lets Auron gain new Overdrive attacks. follow the path to the next area. Here, go into the Inn and save your game. O'aka XIII, can be found outside the shop once more. Behind him you can find Al-Bhed Primer Vol. 16. Continue south to a snowfield for a boss fight.

Equip a weapon with the Lightningstrike ability on your melee characters. Eliminate the Negator first as it prevents you from using any type of magic. Have Wakka attack the Negator, once it's dead, bring Lulu in and just use Thundara.  Take note that the Negator also keeps Crawler from unleashing Mana Beam which deals about 900+ damage on a character, it comes slowly though.

Once the negator is down, (if you have the nessecary abilities) Tidus can cast Slow on the Crawler, and Haste on the party. Tidus can also use Delay Attack to take advantage of the fight.

Macalania Temple

  • Treasures: Mega Potion, 400 Gil, Shell Targe, Elixir, Ether, Phoenix Down (x3), Remedy (x2), Hi-Potion (x2),

Close to the entrance should be an Al Bhed man with 400 Gil for the party; talk to him then make your way across the path. Talk to everyone in the Great Hall and Tromell gives a Shell Targe. From the treasure chests you will recieve 5,000 Gil and X-Potion (x2).

Go to the room on the left to watch Jyscal's Sphere. Talk to the Priests for an Elixir and Ether plus Phoenix Down (x3) from the chest. In the room to the right, speak to the Priest for Hi-Potion (x2) plus Remedy (x2) from the treasure chest. Try to access the Cloister to meet Seymour.

Seymour can be annoying. Your primary concern will be to get rid of the two Guado Guards. You have two options in achieving this. Either steal their Hi-Potions to prevent them from healing themselves, or have Auron use Threaten to stop them from moving. Alternatively, if you have Kimahri's Overdrive ready, cast Stone Breath on the Guards to shatter them instantly. Once they are frozen, focus your attacks on Seymour, since if he dies, so too will the Guado Guards.

When Anima comes into the picture, have Yuna summon Shiva and use Heavenly Strike. This deals plenty of damage as Anima is susceptible to ice. Cast ice spells on Shiva to heal her. With Anima gone, Seymour reappears. At this point, have Yuna cast all 4 "Nul" spells on your party to protect against his "-ra" spells. Attack afterwards.

Macalania Temple Cloister of Trials

  • Start by pushing the pedestal east; this will break the ice. Take the Macalania Sphere from the slot at the right wall; put it in the pedestal.
  • Now, push the pedestal north, this reveals passage that leads below.
  • Remove the Glyph Sphere from the center pillar and go down.
  • Here, insert the Glyph sphere into the left recess on the north wall. This will reveal another Macalania Sphere.
  • Push the pedestal with a Macalania Sphere east into the gap on the pillar to form a part of the ice bridge above.
  • Go back up, take the new Macalania Sphere and head back down.
  • Put it into the recess on the left pillar to form a part of the bridge.
  • Now go back up, take the last Macalania Sphere and insert it into the recess on the center pillar to complete the bridge.
  • Go up- but don't cross the bridge just yet. Instead, step on the shining panel on the floor to make the pedestal appear near you.
  • Then take the Macalania Sphere and push the pedestal down. It will embed itself into the ice on the other side.
  • Go down and insert the Macalania Sphere into any slot below.
  • Head back up and step on the shining panel again. The pedestal will be beside you once more, but this time with the Destruction Sphere.
  • Take it and go down to the basement area. Here, insert the Destruction Sphere into the right recess at the north wall. This will reveal a treasure chest with the Luck Sphere.
  • With that done, rebuild the bridge and proceed to the next area.

Lake Macalania

  • Treasures: Lv. 1 Key Sphere, Lv. 2 Key Sphere, Avenger.

There are two treasure chests in this area with a Mega Potion and a Lv.1 Key Sphere. It's a good idea to hang around this area and charge up everyone's Overdrive gauge to the fullest for the upcoming boss fight.

Wendigo is powerful, especially so when Berserked. First, it is important that you get rid of the 2 Guado Guards quickly. Steal their Hi-Potions to prevent them from healing themselves, or use Kimahri's Stone Breath to shatter them instantly. They also cast Protect and Shell on Wendigo before they die, so Dispel is a must have spell by now.

Once the two cronies are dead, cure Wendigo of Berserk and start attacking and using Fira. Have Yuna ready to heal and revive when needed. Use Ifrit's Hellfire to deal massive damage to Wendigo.

The party will fall all the way down the bottom of the lake. Save your
game and talk to everyone. Grab the Lv. 2 Key Sphere beside
Kimahri, and an Avenger from the northwest edge of the map.

"Final Fantasy X" Boss Guide

I am an avid video game player, and the "Final Fantasy" series is one of my all-time favorites.

Final Fantasy X Boss Battle Strategy Guide

Final Fantasy X Bosses are usually easy if you over-level, but there are still a few challenges to overcome. Several FFX bosses have secret Achilles' heels that may surprise you—for instance, did you know there's one boss that's scared of Auron?

This FFX boss strategy guide will help you play the game without having to backtrack or level grind. You'll learn how to achieve overkill; therefore collecting more AP and loot. Be warned: some of these tricks make certain battles too easy!

So here are all of the regular FFX bosses—ones you absolutely must fight in the storyline—plus Lord Ochu and Yojimbo. For each one I give vital stats, strategy, and (sometimes) suggested preparations that will make the battle easier.

Keys to This Guide

– Numbers in () are the damage needed for overkill.

– I skipped a few stats: Luck because nearly all are 15; one or two are 20; Gil and AP because you're gonna beat 'em anyway, and Bribe because obligatory bosses are not bribable.

– "Equipment" "Armor" and "Weapon" mean items that the monster might drop at battle's end.

Before we get started

Geosgaeno: Submerged Ruins

  • HP: Lots
  • Elements: Weak to all four
  • Immune: All but Poison (Resist: 90%)
  • Stats: MP: 128, Str: 36, Mag: 40, Def: 50, MDf: 50, Agl: 48, Acc: 50
  • Drop: N/A

Strategy

Thwack twice and run away! Cutscene interrupts after the boss takes 90HP, so don't waste a potion.

Klikk: Submerged Ruins – Hall

  • HP/MP: 1500 (400) / 5
  • Elements: Normal
  • Immune: Sleep, Poison, Sensor, Scan
  • Stats: Str: 14, Mag: 1, Def: 1, MDf: 1, Agl: 4, Eva: 0, Acc: 50
  • Drop: Ability Sphere Steal: Grenade(s) Equipment: None

Strategy

Hit and heal, hit and heal. Your ally should steal and toss grenades (each time you steal, there is a chance of another steal drops). If you want the overkill, delay until your ally's overdrive builds, then Mix Grenades x2.

Notes: I think Klikk's HP may reset to full when a new ally joins the battle.

Tros: Underwater Ruins

  • HP/MP: 2200 (600) / 10
  • Elements: Normal
  • Immune: All status effects except . . .
  • Vulnerable: All Breaks, Slow, Sleep, Scan, Delay
  • Stats: Str: 0, Mag: 1, Def: 1, MDf: 1, Agl: 12, Eva: 0, Acc: 20
  • Drop: Power Sphere Steal, Grenade Equipment, None
  • Special Attacks: Nautilus Charge whole party for ~150HP, Tentacles ~100HP

Prep

For overkill, fight extra piranas first to charge Rikku's overdrive a bit.

Strategy

Use steal grenades by throwing them when it goes to the far side of the room. Heal when HP drops below 200. After its second retreat, use Trigger Command "Pincer Attack." Cheer helps increase damage.

Sin's Fin: The Ill-Fated S.S. Liki

  • HP/MP: 2000 (1000) / 100
  • Elements: Normal
  • Immune: All status effects except Delay/Sonic Wings
  • Vulnerable: All Breaks and Scan, Sensor, Demi
  • Stats: Str: 1, Mag: 1, Def: 1, MDf: 1, Agl: 6, Eva: 0, Acc: 50
  • Drop: Mana Sphere Steal: Can't
  • Weapons/Armor: Piercing, Icestrike / Elemental wards

Strategy

Use Tidus' Cheer three to four times until you're killing Sinscales with one hit. Bash them until you get bored. Then use Kimahri's Lancet, Wakka's ball, and Lulu's spells to hit Sin. When it's below 1000, charge Valefor's overdrive with Sinscales and then have her overkill Fin.

Tip: Heal Wakka and Tidus before finishing this battle.

Notes: Endless Sinscales—390HP, 200 overkill—means endless AP and up to 99 Power Spheres.

Kimahri Leveling Tip

Start Kimahri towards Rikku's path to give him Steal and use very early (a guy in very first Agency gives you a Lvl 1 Key sphere; you get two for pushing Chocobo Eater off a cliff, or lots in Operation Mi'ihen).

You'll then have a Thief/Alchemist long before Rikku arrives, and he can steal Petrify Grenades from Basilisks in Djose. They are very useful against Guado.

Sinspawn Echuilles: S.S. Liki (Underwater)

  • HP/MP: 2000 (400) / 20
  • Elements: Normal
  • Immune: Sleep, Petrification, Zombie, Death, Provoke
  • Vulnerable: Darkness, Poison, Breaks, Slow, stuff you don't have yet
  • Stats: Str: 10, Mag: 15, Def: 1, MDf: 1, Agl: 5, Eva: 0, Acc:15
  • Drop: Ability Sphere Steal: None
  • Weapons/Armor: Piercing, Waterstrike / Water Ward
  • Special Attacks: Every third turn, "Blender" does ~ 110HP damage to the party.

Prep

When you first get on S.S. Liki, kick the suitcase in the hold for potions! (Not essential, just handy.)

Strategy

Wakka's Dark Attack makes "Blender" miss and lasts three turns. Tidus' Cheer for five times boosts defense and strength enough for a probable overkill; or wait to charge overdrives.

Lord Ochu: Kilika Forest

  • HP/MP: 4649 (800) / 39
  • Elements: Fire-Weak
  • Immune: Darkness, Poison, Provoke
  • Vulnerable: Everything else, including Valefor's Sonic Wings/Delay
  • Stats: Str: 15, Mag: 23, Def: 1, MDf: 1, Agl: 8, Eva: 0, Acc: 10
  • Drop/RareDrop: MP Sphere / HP Sphere Steal: Potion
  • Bribe: 92,980 Gil for Remedy x80
  • Weapons: 1–3 of Piercing, Poisontouch, Str +5%, Mag +5%
  • Armor: 1–3 of Darkness/Silence/Sleep/Stone/Confuse/Berserk Ward
  • Special Attacks: Poisontouch, Earthquake to party when it wakes up.

Prep

Charge Valefor's overdrive with random battles, chat up Luzzu for Antidotes, and SAVE.

Strategy

Lulu's Fire does the bulk of the work. After Ochu falls asleep, it regens, so summon Valefor to hit it. She's immune to Earthquake. Then Dismiss her and bring her back in when he drops below 1200 for overdrive/overkill and rare spheres.

Notes: 40 AP (60 for overkill) means be sure to swap in everybody. You could wait until after you get Ifrit from Kilika Temple to use his Fire, but if you beat Ochu on the way, Luzzu and a few Crusaders in the forest give extra items.

Sinspawn Geneaux: Steps of Kilika Temple

  • HP/MP: 3000 (900) / 30
  • Elements: Fire Weak; Absorbs Water
  • Immune: Sleep, Petrify, Dark, Poison, Zombie, Death, Provoke, Doom, Demi
  • Vulnerable: Silence, Slow, Delay/Sonic Wings, All Breaks
  • Stats: Str: 15, Mag: 10, Def: 1, MDf: 1, Agl: 7, Eva: 0, Acc: 100
  • Drop: Power Spheres Steal: Nothing
  • Weapons/Armor: 1–2 slots: Piercing, Darktouch/Dark Ward
  • Special Attacks: Sigh (Mag damage to party), Staccato (Physical damage to party), Venom (damage + Poison to target). Once the shell is open, Water and Poison spells.

Strategy

Kill tentacles with physical damage, then swap in Lulu to crack the shell. Use Wakka's Silence Attack if you've got it, or Yuna's NullTide. Summon Valefor at 1200 for overkill (She can take a few hits from it to charge up.)

Notes: Geneaux starts out ARMORED, nearly impregnable to physical damage, and its two tentacles—450HP (500 overkill!)—absorb magic.

Oblitzerator: Luca Dock Four

  • HP/MP: 6000 (600) / 10
  • Elements: Lightning Weak; I/W/F Half
  • Immune: Silence, Sleep, Dark, Pois, Petrify, Zombie, Threat, Death, Provoke, Doom
  • Vulnerable: Breaks, Slow, Delay, Demi, Scan
  • Stats: Str: 16, Mag: 10, Def: 1, MDf: 1, Agl: 1, Eva: 0, Acc: 10
  • Drop: Elixir Steal: Can't
  • Weapons/Armor: 1–2 slots: Piercing, Lightningstrike/Defense +3%
  • Special Attacks: Blitzball Rush (party damage); often counterattacks with Dark or Silence.

Prep

Buy a few Echo Screens and Eyedrops from O'aka on the way.

Strategy

Haste Lulu. Have her zap the crane with Lightning three times to jump start it. (Boy, I wish the AAA agent looked like Lu.) Tidus operates crane for amusing/effective damage. Have Lulu Focus four to five times so she can overkill or use her overdrive.

Notes: Agility increases each turn. Crane will lower HP to 1/16.

Chocobo Eater: Mi'ihen Highroad Travel Agency

  • HP/MP: 10,000 (800) / 5
  • Elements: Fire Weak (*Armored)
  • Immune: Silence, Sleep, Petrify, Zombie, Threaten, Death, Demi, Doom
  • Vulnerable: Darkness, Slow, Delay, 50% resist to Breaks, Poison
  • Stats: Str: 25, Mag: 20, Def: 25, MDf: 35, Agl: 12, Eva: 0, Acc: 25
  • Drop: Lvl 1 Key Spheres ONLY if falls over cliff Steal: Potion
  • Weapons: 1–2 slots: Sensor, Piercing, Str or Mag +5% or +10%
  • Armor: 1–2 slots: Any elemental ward (items ONLY if push over the cliff)
  • Special Attacks: Push Back whole party + damage; "You're Next" means Fist of Fury (1000HP, 1 target) next turn, Blizzard when on back.

Prep

On Highroad to S, Lancet a Dual-Horn so Kimahri has Fire Breath ready.

Strategy

Start with Dark Attack. Haste Lulu for Fire, Auron for his Breaks. The first time he falls over, Focus Lulu and Cheer to buff attacks. It's hard to push Eater off the cliff before killing him: cheat by healing him! You can overkill with Ifrit, but I'm not sure you get the key spheres without pushing him off the cliff.

Notes: *He is armored while on feet, ao knock over or use Piercing weapons. It takes 1201 cumulative dam to knock him over, 501 more to push him back. You get Lvl 1 Key Spheres if he goes over the cliff!

Sinspawn Gui: Mushroom Rock Road

  • HP/MP: Body: 12,000 first battle, 6,000 second (800) Head: 4000, 1000 (800) Arms: 800, 800 (500) / 30
  • Elements: Normal (Armored)
  • Immune: All status effects and breaks except . . .
  • Vulnerable: Power Break, Provoke, Demi
  • Stats: Str: 29, Mag: 20, Def: 1, MDf: 30, Agl: 10, Eva: 0, Acc: 100
  • Drop: Lvl 1 Key Spheres x3 Steal: Potion
  • Weapons/Armor: 1–2 of: Piercing, Sleepstrike or -touch/ Sleepproof
  • Special Attacks: Body alternates between Punch (~600HP) and Demi; Head between Thunder and Venom (500+Poison)

Prep

Charge up aeons on the way to Command Center and level Lulu to have at least 1 -ara spell.

Strategy

Haste Lulu to nail its arms and Auron to Power Break and pound it. Use Wakka's ball or spells to stop the head. Use one aeon in each battle for overkill and lots of Key Spheres. In the second battle, "ally" will take Lulu's place with -aras. (And no, his overdrive isn't worth waiting for umpteen turns to see.)

Notes: Armored arms protect it; Lulu's -aras will lop them off with one spell each.

Extractor: Moonflow (Underwater)

  • HP/MP: 4000 (800) / 10
  • Elements: Lightning Weak; I/W/F Half
  • Immune: Dark, Silence, Sleep, Poison, Petrify, Zombie, Doom, Death
  • Vulnerable: Slow, Breaks, Provoke 50%, Threaten, Delay, Scan, Demi
  • Stats: Str: 23, Mag: 15, Def: 1, MDf: 1, Agl: 15, Eva: 0, Acc: 30
  • Drop: Mega-Phoenix Steal: Potion
  • Weapons/Armor: 1–3 of: Piercing, [Element]strike / SOS Nul[Element]
  • Special Attacks: Two turns of Aqua Shooter for ~200; on turn four does Depth Charge, ~350 + Dark.

Prep

How nice of O'aka to be selling Lightningstrike weapons on the way here!

Strategy

Haste Tidus and Wakka, Slow the Extractor, and Cheer or try to get two lightning hits from Wakka's overdrive to overkill.

Notes: Provoke cancels Depth Charge but increases Str for two rounds. 500 damage will also cancel it.

Spherimorph: Macalania Woods

  • HP/MP: 12,000 (2000) / 100
  • Elements: Variable**
  • Immune: Scan, Sensor, Slow, Sleep, Silence, Dark, Petrify, Death, Provoke
  • Vulnerable: Breaks, Zombie, Demi, Threat (75% resist) Poison (90% resist)
  • Stats: Str: 20, Mag: 20, Def: 100, MDf: 1, Agl: 15, Eva: 0, Acc: 30
  • Drop: Level 2 Key Sphere Steal/ Rare Steal: Ether/Turbo Ether
  • Weapons/Armor: 2–3 of: Piercing, [Element]strike / [Element]ward
  • Special Attacks: Press does massive damage to the party.

Prep

Switch to non-elemental weapons. Get Ixion's and Ifrit's overdrive charged. Save.

Strategy

Haste Yuna and Lulu, get your Nulls up and Steal. Have Lulu Focus about four times to increase her power and party's defense. Then bring in someone to poke it with a stick (sword, etc.), which causes it to give away its current element. Lulu counters with the opposite. Rinse and repeat.

For overkill and rare spheres, keep running tally of damage in your head, since you can't scan. When it gets down below 2000, use Lulu's -ara Fury or Ifrit's or Ixion's overdrive when it's the right element.

Notes: Always vulnerable to one element, it absorbs/heals the rest. Each time it takes magic damage, it phases to a new element at random. It counters physical attacks with the current element.

Crawler: Lake Macalania, Al Bhed Ambush

  • HP/MP: 16,000 (4000) / 1
  • Elements: Lighting Weak, Half I/W/F
  • Protected by Negator: 1000 HP, 1000 overkill
  • Immune: All Breaks and status effects except . . .
  • Vulnerable: Slow, Scan, Sensor, Delay/Sonic Wings, Demi
  • Stats: Str: 25, Mag: 30, Def: 100, MDf: 50, Agl: 20, Eva: 0, Acc: 30
  • Drop: Elixir Steal/ Rare Steal: Lunar Curtain
  • Weapons/Armor: 2–4 of: Piercing, [Element]strike / [Element]ward
  • Special Attacks: Gatling Gun (damage party), Mana Beam (massive damage to 1), Assault counterattacks spellcasts

Prep

Charge Ixion's overdrive and hope you stole some lightning marbles in Thunder Plains!

Strategy

Haste Rikku and Lulu, Slow the Crawler. Have Wakka knock down Negator. Rikku can use Lightning Gem even while Negator is up. Once it's down, Lulu Thundaras. (You might have Auron Guard her from Counterattacks). If it's about to unleash Mana Beam, bring in Ixion and Shield to soak damage, then have aeon cast Thundara on himself to heal. Ixion's overdrive, Lulu's Thundara Fury, or a Lightning Gem should overkill.

Notes: Negator blocks summons and spells—and Crawler's mana beam! Mana beam takes 4 turns to charge; Negator regenerates three turns after being hit. Do the math.

Seymour (and Anima): Macalania Temple Antechamber

  • HP/MP: 6,000 (1400) / 100
  • Elements: Normal
  • Immune: Power Break, Silence, Sleep, Dark, Petri, Zombie, Threaten, Provoke, Demi, Death, Doom, Delay/Sonic Wings
  • Vulnerable: Slow, Mental/Armor Break, Magic Break (50% Resist) Poison (40% Resist), Scan, Sensor
  • Stats: Str: 20, Mag: 25, Def: 1, MDf: 25, Agl: 20, Eva: 0, Acc: 100
  • Drop/Rare Drop: Black Mag / Special Sphere Steal/ Rare Steal: Turbo Ether / Elixir Equipment: 2–4 of: Piercing, Silencestrike/-proof
  • Special Attacks: S. multicasts ice, lightning, water, fire in that order; after Anima uses -ara spells which HURT.

Strategy

Talk. If available, use Kimahri's Stonebreath, Rikku's Petrify Grenades, or Stonestrike weapons to remove guards. Meanwhile, Haste Yuna and get up all four Nulls. Once she is ahead of Seymour with Null spells, Auron Magic Breaks and thwacks him until he calls for Mommy.

Mommy is Anima: 18,000 (1400) HP, Holy-weak, immune to all Breaks and Status Effects. The gang will remind you of your new aeon (scroll down in summons menu). Summon her to attack, heal her with Blizzara, or Shield when Anima unleashes overdrive. New aeon's overdrive kills Anima.

Now get back to Magic Break and pounding Seymour; the Nulls you cast earlier will save you from nasty multicasts. It won't take long to kill Seymour; one of your aeons can overkill.

Notes: Guado Guards are 2000HP kill/overkill and self-heal until you overkill or steal from them. Talking to Seymour raises Tidus' Str, Yuna's, and Wakka's MDef.
After Seymour's down to 3000HP, summons Anima; his HP reset afterward

Wendigo: Lake Macalania

  • HP/MP: 18000 (1432) / 32
  • Elements: Fire-Weak
  • Immune: Poison, Petrify, Slow, Zombie, Death, Reflect
  • Vulnerable: Breaks, Threaten, Provoke, Doom, Sleep/Silence/Dark ( 20% resist)
  • Stats: Str: 40, Mag: 1, Def: 1, MDf: 1, Agl: 18, Eva: 0, Acc: 0
  • Drop: Power Sphere Steal/Rare Steal: Hi-Potion/X-Potion
  • Weapons/Armor: 1–2 of: Piercing, Counterattack/SOS Haste, HP+10%
  • Special Attacks: Nasty Counterattack once he drops below 50% HP

Prep

Charge Ifrit while fleeing the temple.

Strategy

Remove Guado guards with Stonebreath/Petrify Grenades if possible, or steal their potions then kill them (2000HP; 1432overkill). Try Wakka's Sleep Attack and then tiptoe around beastie while Lulu burns him to a crisp. Auron's Threaten will cancel Berserk, and his Breaks are handy (but will wake Wendigo up). Haste helps, as usual, and Ifrit can deliver the overkill.

Notes: Guado guards cast Berserk, Shell and Protect on him when killed, UNLESS they're petrified.

Evrae: Fahrenheit

  • HP/MP: 32,000 (2000) / 500
  • Elements: Half Damage all elements
  • Immune: Armor/Magic Break, Sleep, Silence, Poison, Petrify, Zombie, Demi, Threat
  • Vulnerable: Power Break, Mental Break, 50% resist Slow/Dark, Doom (30 turns)
  • Stats: Str: 36, Mag: 30, Def: 1, MDf: 1, Agl: 20, Eva: 0, Acc: 100
  • Drop: Black Magic Sphere Steal: Water Gem
  • Weapons/Armor: 1–3 of: Piercing, Stonetouch/Stone Ward
  • Special Attacks: Breath Attack in melee does 1000HP to party + Poison; Photon attack at distance not so bad. Swooping Scythes to close in and smack party hard.

Prep

Equip Stone/Poison ward Armor, remove elemental weapons. SAVE.

Strategy

This battle would be bad if Rikku didn't have Al Bhed potions curing poison and party damage. (Hopefully Kimahri too; I always start him on Rikku's path long enough to get Steal and Use). Start with Auron's Mental Break, then tell Cid to move off. Slow Evrae. Plink Evrae with spells, Wakka's ball, and gems so Cid can get off three rounds of missiles. Once Evrae refuses to stay away or Cid's out of ammo, Power Break Evrae and use someone's overdrive to finish Evrae off.

Notes: Keep away for three turns and Cid fires missiles. Also, use no Poison/physical attacks while away. Evrae tends to cast Slow on Hasted characters.

Isaaru's Aeons: Via Purifico

I'm not giving the full write-up because they're easy, but Grothia (Ifrit) is 8000 HP and ice-weak, Pterya (Valefor) is 12,000, and Spathi (Bahamut) is 20,000.

Forget Overkill; there's no AP bonus or drops.

Tip: as with any aeon duel, shield when the other aeon's about to overdrive; heal elemental aeons with their element. I use Bahamut vs. Grothia and Pterya, then Shiva dances with Spathi.

P.S.

Did you get all the rare spheres in the Via Purifico? Here's a Via Purifico Map with directions on unlocking the teleport puzzle. Finding Lulu adds to Isaaru's cutscene.

P.P.S.

This is where I plug my award-winning alternate universe sequel to FFX in which Yuna chooses the Final Summoning. Thirteen years later, Isaaru resumes his pilgrimage with Auron's grudging help.

Evrae Altana: Via Purifico

  • HP/MP: 16,384 (2000) / 500
  • Elements: Normal (Zombie)
  • Immune: Sleep, Silence, Poison, Petrify, Demi, Threaten, Provoke
  • Vulnerable: Breaks, Darkness/Slow resist 50%, Delay, Doom (30turns)
  • Stats: Str: 32, Mag: 27, Def: 1, MDf: 1, Agl: 25, Eva: 0, Acc: 100
  • Drop: Black Mag Sphere Steal/Rare: Water Gem/Stamina Spring
  • Weapons: 1–3 of: Piercing, [Element]Strike, Str+3%,Str+5%
  • Armor: 1–3 of: Zombie/Stone/Silence/Dark/Sleep/Slow/Poisonproof
  • Special Attacks: Stone Gaze, shattering punch, Photon Spray on party

Strategy

Take 20 seconds to ponder: what hurts Zombies? Stumped? Okay, here's the spoiler. Toss two Phoenix Downs at it and collect your overkill.

Notes: This would be hard, if he weren't a ZOMBIE.

Seymour Natus and Mortibody: Bevelle Highbridge

Seymour

  • HP/MP: 36,000 (3500) / 200
  • Elements: Normal
  • Immune: Demi, Delay, All Breaks and Status Effects except . . .
  • Vulnerable: Poison, Power Break, Provoke (10% resist)
  • Stats: Str 30 Mag 25 Def 1 MDf 1 Agl 21 Eva 0 Acc 100
  • Drop: 2x Lvl 2 Key Sphere Steal/Rare: 2x Tetra Elemental
  • Weapons/Armor: 1–3 of: Piercing, [Element]Strike,/SOS Shell

Mortibody

  • HP/MP: 4000, 3000, 2000, 1000 / 50
  • Elements: Normal
  • Immune: Demi, All Breaks and Status Effects except . . .
  • Vulnerable: Power Break, Armor Break (50% resist)
  • Stats: Str: 22, Mag: 20, Def: 50, MDf: 1, Agl: 28, Eva: 0, Acc: 100
  • Special Attacks: Mortibody often uses Desperado, major damage to party + Dispel, if anyone's got multiple defensive spells up.

Prep

Run around save sphere beforehand and charge Bahamut's overdrive in random battles.

Strategy

KO Mortibody so it uses its turn to suck HP from Seymour instead of hitting you. If you can put Reflect on Tidus, Provoke Seymour into bouncing his spells off Tidus.

This battle has three phases:

  1. Elemental Phase: Mortibody casts Fire/Blizzard/etc., wiping out the Null for that element, then Seymour multicasts the same element as -ara. Sometimes Mortibody hits party hard with Desperado doing damage + Dispel to cancel Haste, Reflect, etc. Haste Yuna, get up Reflect if you have it, or use Shell/Protect/Lunar Curtain. Have Lulu Bio Seymour so he's taking damage every turn. Talk to increase Strength or Mag Df. Steal from Seymour. Power Break and pound Mortibody as your primary target, Seymour with area spells/attacks/overdrives. Also cast Reflect on Seymour.
  2. Petrify Phase: When Seymour drops below 24,000 HP, he Protects himself (or you if you Reflected him), then starts casting Break which petrifies 1 character.
Strategy: Un-petrify with Al Bhed Potions and/or "kill" Mortibody before it uses Shattering Claw, which not only removes a petrified character from battle, but won't let anyone take his/her place! Keep pounding Mortibody as primary target, or do area attacks.
  3. Flare Phase: When Seymour drops below 12,000, he starts casting Flare for 2000–2500HP damage on one target. Reflect will save you. Mortibody casts Cura on Seymour or on the party if you've put Reflect on Seymour. Bring in aeons with overdrives ready when he gets below 5,000 (or below 10,000 if you've got Bahamut ready).

Notes: When you KO Mortibody, it drains its new max HP from Seymour and regenerates. First it drops to 3000HP, then 2000, then sticks at 1000.

Defender X: Far Side of Calm Lands

  • HP/MP: 64,000 (4060) / 1
  • Elements: Normal (Armored)
  • Immune: Power Break, Status Effects except . . .
  • Vulnerable: Provoke, Dark (resistant), Armor/Mental/Magic Break, Doom (10)
  • Stats: Str: 42, Mag: 5, Def: 30, MDf: 1, Agl: 20, Eva: 0, Acc: 0
  • Drop: Lvl 2 Key Sphere Steal: 4x Lunar Curtain
  • Weapons: Piercing, Str or Magic +3/5/10% Armor: SOS Protect
  • Special Attacks: Blast Punch halves target's HP; Haymaker major damage to one target; SlowgaPrep: An aeon or two in overdrive. Aspirin and Ben-gay.

Strategy

Hastega, Dark Attack and Protect your party—this thing's attacks are brutal. Haymaker usually misses if it's blind. If you're really in a jam, Provoke it and it'll just keep Blast Punching Tidus (how satisfying!) which simply halves his HP. Normally, I settle in with Yuna healing Lulu and Auron while they take turns smashing the thing. "Peel the fruit" for Lu with Mental Break. Once Yuna gets charged up for a Grand Summon, Dispel its Mighty Guard and bring in Bahamut.

Notes: Armored so only piercing weapons do much. Mighty Guard (Protect, Shell, Nulls) when critical.

Yojimbo: Cavern of the Stolen Fayth

  • HP/MP: 33,000 (4080) / 2000
  • Elements: Normal
  • Immune: All Breaks, all status effects except . . .
  • Vulnerable: Doom in five turns.
  • Stats: Str: 34, Mag: 35, Def: 80, MDf: 1, Agl: 32, Eva: 0, Acc: 0
  • Drop/Steal/Items/AP/Gil: None
  • Special Attacks: Daigoro 1 target for 500; Kozuka 1 target for 1000 + Poison and MP drain; Wakizashi 1000 to everyone, and Zanmato = 9999 to party.

Prep

Charge your aeons' overdrives with Magic Urns on the way in; have aeons plunk them for prizes until they blow up. (if explosion kills aeon, go to aeons menu and improve their Def/HP.)

Strategy

Hastega and hammer away. Lulu's -agas do plenty damage. If you get frustrated, Doom works, but aeons should trounce him.

Notes: His overdrive Zanmato is almost certainly Game Over unless you bring in an aeon to shield.

Biran and Yenke: Mt. Gagazet

Biran

  • HP/MP: 1⅓ Kimahri's (2500) / 200
  • Elements: Normal
  • Immune: All Status Effects except Doom
  • Vulnerable: All Breaks, Demi, Doom (20 turns)
  • Stats: Str ⅔ Kimahri's Mag ½ Yenke's Def 30 MDf 50 Agl Kimahri's - 4 Eva 0 Acc 100
  • Lancet: Thrust Kick, Self-Destruct, Doom, Mighty Guard

Yenke

  • HP: 1⅓ Kimahri's (2500) MP: 200
  • Elements: Normal
  • Immune: All Status Effects except Doom
  • Vulnerable: All Breaks, Demi, Doom (20 turns)
  • Stats: Str ½ Biran's Mag ⅔ Kimahri's Def 30 MDf 50 Agl Kimahri's - 4 Eva 0 Acc 100
  • Lancet: Fire/Stone/Aqua Breath, White Wind

Both

  • Drop: Return/Friend Sphere Steal: Lvl 3 Key Sphere
  • Weapons/Armor: 1-3 of Piercing / MP + 40%
  • Special Attacks: Bulldozer: hits Kimahri but separates them; Each Guards the other when side-by-side, reducing damage.

Prep

Make sure Kimahri has STEAL ability. Optionally, improve chances of stealing by acquiring Master Thief auto-ability (see callout below). It's a prize in the Remiem Temple Chocobo race.

Strategy

If Kimahri has Use, Chocobo Feather (Haste) will make your life easier. Then start Lanceting all their Ronso Rages: each has four, but Kimahri may already have some. Use Hi-Potions or Al Bhed Potions. Be sure to use an Overdrive EVERY time you Lancet (Mighty G and White Wind to heal are good ones). Finally, Steal many Level 3 Key Spheres from one of them. Each time you steal, the chance of stealing goes down, but you can probably get up to five. Once you've stolen all you can from one Ronso, kill him, then Steal the other. Use area attacks like Aqua Breath or Grenades when they're together, or Fire Breath and single attacks when they're apart.

Notes: Lancet all four Ronso Rages from each one of them before killing either; they don't use Ronso Rage after their buddy is down.

Master Thief

Master Thief increases chances of stealing items, and stealing rare items. Useful against Biran, Yenke and Seymour.

It takes 30x Pendulum to customize armor with this auto-ability.

Get them by opening 4 chests without hitting poles in the Remiem Temple Chocobo Race. (Follow the route below, but skip a chest.)

Seymour Flux and Mortiorchis: Mt. Gagazet Prominence

Seymour

  • HP/MP: 70,000 (3500) / 512
  • Elements: Normal
  • Immune: Demi, All Status Effects / Breaks except . . .
  • Resistant: 50% to Silence, 90% to Poison
  • Stat: Str: 30, Mag: 15, Def: 40, MDf: 40, Agl: 38, Eva: 0, Acc: 100
  • Drop: Lvl. 4 Key Sphere Steal: Elixir

Mortiorchis

  • HP/MP: 4000, 3000, 2000, 1000 (N/A)* / 512
  • Elements: Normal
  • Immune: All Status Effects, Breaks, Demi
  • Stats: Str: 40, Mag: 40, Def: 100, MDf: 1, Agl: 38, Eva: 0, Acc: 100
  • Weapons/Armor: 1–3 of Piercing, Darkstrike / SOS Shell

Both

Special Attacks: (1) Seymour casts Zombie, Reflect on self then Flare Mort casts Full-Life to kill one target; (2) Seymour casts Reflect on self then Flare; (3) Mort casts Dispel, then Seymour Cross-Cleaves party for 2500 (Defend with Triangle button to halve this); (4) Seymour unleashes magical attack Total Annihilation which kills almost anyone without Shell.

The Let's Play Archive

Part 67: Episode LVIX: Display My Ignorance

Music: Enemy Attack

Alright, I've got some issues with everything happening right now that I feel I need to air. First of all, the Al Bhed are trying to capture Yuna. We'll just ignore that nobody never actually went “the hell is even the deal with doing that” to Rikku at any point since she joined. We're past that. The point is they're attempting to kidnap someone by attacking their position with a tank. While they're still in it. That's like trying to initiate a hostage rescue by ordering an air-strike in the building they're housed in.

Beyond just the tank being the method of kidnapping, we've got the fact they drove a FUCKING 10 TON TANKonto a frozen lake. No part of this plan is well thought out or planned. But here we are contending with it. Meet the Crawler.

The Crawler's first order of business is launching a drone called the Negator which emits a powerful anti-magic field disabling the party's magical capabilities while active.

This is one of the primary gimmicks of this battle. And this battle does have a few. I really didn't pick the best stop to pick up this game after several years, since this battle can be a bit rough. The Crawler hits like a... well a goddamn tank, has armor defenses against physical blows and most magic (besides Thunder which it has a weakness toward), and has a very healthy 16,000 HP what with being a goddamn tank.

The first order of business should be disabling the Negator. The Al Bhed's UAV only has 1000 HP. The trouble is it is a flying enemy so everyone's physical attacks outside of Wakka are helpless to swat the thing down. On top of that there's the whole no magic thing so Lulu and Yuna are pretty much worthless until a button is put on that. Auron is all physical attacks so he's on the bench too. Kimahri I guess could use Lancet...? Pfft. Sure.

Unless we get lucky with a critical strike, Wakka needs to burn through 2/3 turns of lobbing sports balls at the thing to take it down.

Alternately, we can have Rikku pitch in with her item use to just toss a grenade at the problem and hope for the best. Hey, it worked for Solid Snake when dealing with tanks.

While Negator is active, the Crawler only has a single default attack in Gatling Gun. Where it will err... fire its gatling gun hitting the entire party 6-8 times randomly for 200-300 HP of damage each blow. The Gatling Gun attack has really poor accuracy and abilities like Tidus' Cheer and the like (abilities don't count as magic) can help to evade blows.

When the Negator is destroyed we move onto the primary phase of the battle where we begin our assault on the tank proper now that magic is back on the table.

Now is Lulu's time to shine with Thundara spells. They'll bite out around 2,000 HP out of the mechanical beast. Other party members that happen to have Thunder magic equipped on their weapons (unlikely unless you know what's coming given the previous area was nothing but lightning absorbing enemies) can contribute. Otherwise the rest of the party is pretty much there for healing, buffs, and moral support for Lulu.

The Al Bhed won't take Lulu's electrical nonsense lightly, however. Every spell cast on Crawler will result in it counter-attacking Lulu by ramming her for a good 700-800 HP of damage. Her being a squishy mage means there's only 2-3 rounds she can take from that kind of abuse before taking a dirt nap. And we kind of don't want to use healing magic here. Or really any magic beyond Lulu's Thundara. For you see, there's another gimmick involving magic beyond the drone blocking it.

Every fourth magic spell cast will result in the crawler deploying a brand new Negator into the battle and bringing us back to square one with the anti-magic field business. So there's that to take into consideration.

When the Negator is disabled things aren't all peachy. Beyond counter-attacking magic, Crawler will now uses the next four turns to count down its ultimate attack: The Mana Beam.

The Mana Beam is just a giant laser cannon that will sweep the entire party hitting for 1500-2000. It's a bad time for everyone involved. The only way to avoid the Mana Beam is to either (obviously) destroy the Crawler before it fires. Or else use four magic spells to force it into redeploying the Negator, which will in turn disable the Mana Beam from firing. Yes, they brought a tank that deploys drones that disable magic and a main cannon that runs on magic energy. Nothing about this vehicle was very well thought out.

That's about all there is to be said about the Crawler battle. Just maintaining a balance of firing off enough Thundara spells before the Mana Cannon can fire, disabling the drone, rinsing and repeating and hoping things don't go real bad with timing.

RIP another crew of Al Bhed war machine pilots. Wakka might be the only one actively racist toward the Al Bhed. But the fact his comrades have murdered more of them than any other non-monster race in Spira probably might start raising a few eyebrows after a while.

We get a nice chunk of AP, Gil, and loot from our defeat of the latest Al Bhed shenanigans. I need to remind myself to go check what the hell was going on in my Sphere Grid in the past because hell if I remember.

New Music: Fog Sea

Uhh... You're welcome, dickweed. Is nobody going to go along with Tromell this time around. The guy fucked up escorting Yuna literallywithin seconds of being left in his care. You people are just the worst at your jobs.

[I will tell Father!]

[I am the guardian of Yuna, you see?]
“Fa femm kiynt ran! Cra ec cyva!" [Yuna is safe! We will guard her!]

[You do this alone, sister!]

The Al Bhed leader runs off...

*nervous laugh* “I told him I was a guardian. Well, guess I had to, really."
"How come you speak Al Bhed?”

“Uhh... Well... guha...”
*sigh* <I have seen that look before. This is all about to get very offensive...>

*to Tidus and Lulu* "You knew?
*nods*
“Why didn't you tell me?"
"We knew you'd be upset."
”...Kinda thought you'd catch on sooner. I mean she has the spiral eye thing going on and all. Err... No offense. Is that offensive...? That sounds offensive.”
“So what?”
“...Isn't that an Al Bhed thing? I mean I have never seen an Al Bhed until like a month ago and even I figured out that. Err... That is an Al Bhed thing, right...?”
“It is.”
*nods* “It's why we wear the goggles...”
“...”
“...So what!?”

“This is great. I can't believe I've been traveling with an Al Bhed! A heathen!"
"You're wrong! We have nothing against Yevon."
"But you Al Bhed use the forbidden machina! You know what that means?”

"You got proof? Show me proof!"
<And here we go...>

"It's in Yevon's teachings! Not that you'd know!"
"That's not good enough! Yevon says this, Yevon says that. Can't you think for yourself?"
”Yevon's teachings say I don't gotta as long as I have faith.”
"Well, then you tell me! Where did Sin come from, huh?"
"I...I don't know!"
"You bad-mouth Yevon and that's all you can come up with?"
”I didn't even bad-mouth Yevon. I just said maybe you should think for yourself a tiny bit outside what's written in some old books.”
“Blasphemy!”

"But...that doesn't mean you should do whatever they say without thinking! Nothing will ever change that way!"
"Nothing has to change!"
"You want Sin to keep coming back? There might be a way to stop it, you know!"
"Sin will be gone once we atone for our past mistakes!"
“When? How?"

”Going to just continue keeping the course for a thousand years of that not really doing anything, huh?”
“Yevon works in mysterious ways. It's not for us to know. A heathen like you wouldn't understand.”

"Why do I even bother?"
"Rikku! "
“Hm?”

*runs over* “Yes!”
“We're not using that, are we?”

"Come on, Wakka..."
"What?"
”Auron is just...”
“Cold, tired of walking, and I don't care about Yevon. If you would like to argue religious doctrine, there's a snow drift over there that will listen.”
"...”

"I mean, getting angry just 'cause you found out Rikku's an Al Bhed... You guys got along just fine till now, didn't you?"
"That's different. I mean..."
”She... She could be putting on an act. What about that thing with the thunder? Ain't heard of no grease monkeys being afraid of electricity what with their precious machina.”
“...You also hadn't heard of the single weird physical trait they have until three minutes ago either.”
“Hmph! Well, I can't be wasting my time with knowing about stupid things like the Al Bhed.”

"Well, I don't claim to know that much about Spira. And I probably know even less about the Al Bhed, but...I know Rikku's a good person. She's just Rikku!"
"Lu?"

"Ha!"

Wakka decides he's going to walk the rest of the way to Macalania Temple by himself. No doubt to brood about how that rotten Al Bhed Rikku stole that sixth guardian position on the team from a hard working Yevonite they just hadn't encountered yet.

Oh well. Fuck him. He'll get over it. Or die of hypothermia.

"You've done nothing to apologize for."
”Wakka is just... Erm...”
“...Little bit racist?”
“I like the guy but... yeah.”
*grunts* <Wakka not even know funny jokes about Al Bhed. How many Al Bhed it take to change in a light bulb? Zero because they all smited by Sin for using forbidden machina. How that even supposed to be joke?>
“...I was going to say... 'passionate' about his faith. But yes. Wakka is not the most open-minded person I know.”

"All right! Let's ride!"

*flips over a snowmobile *
"Better than Kimahri does!”

Whatever, dude. Kimahri knows what he's doing. He's sick of you humans' shit and is just fucking OUT!

Hey, remember that “Affection” mechanic I mentioned ages ago and touched on a few times? The one where performing certain actions in dialogue and healing people in combat and such would raise an unseen stat dictating a few scenes. Well this right here is the primary point in the game where you get a completely different scene depending on who has the highest affection at this point. Discounting Yuna who has already taken off on foot, hopefully without another kidnapping attempt or Sin Spawn ambush or the like. And Wakka, his is having a bigotry brooding session.

Whoever between the remaining Lulu, Rikku, Auron, and Kimahri likes Tidus the best will now share a unique conversation for the drive to the next area. In our case, the winner is...

Rikku! Not sure how that worked out. But I reckon hitching a ride with the simple but friendly enough Tidus is probably her safest bet after the previous simple but seemingly friendly enough guy just blew up in her face like a jackass.

Music: Fantasy

"He didn't have to be so mean, yeah? I almost cried."
“Uh... Rikku?"

"It's okay. At least you're still nice.”
”Yeah well, you've been pretty cool. I mean... other than the time you gun-whipped me and forced me into undersea labor. And the time you tried to kill me in that river. And your brother just tried to kill me with some kinda tank. I guess that last one isn't on you...”
*nervous laugh* “Yeah... Super sorry...”

“Hey, do I look like Yunie, you think?”
“Huh?”
”...Err. Not... really? Like... at all? I mean you're both cute, don't get me wrong. It's ju—“

"Hmm. Ah. I had no idea! If you say so.”
“Mmm-hmm.”
”Say, I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess Wakka doesn't know Yunie is half-Al Bhed, right?”
“And people say I ask a lot of dumb questions. I think you already know the answer to that one.”
*nervous laugh* “Sheesh. That's going to be a great drama bomb one of these days.”

“Okay! I guess you're guarding your family, then."
"Yuna's not the only one that I want to protect. We Al Bhed want to protect all of the summoners, you know? Summoners are... Well, you could say that... they sacrifice themselves to, well... to bring happiness to Spira."

“Oh.”
“Rikku?"
"Yes?"
"'Sacrifice themselves'"?
”...”
“You know what I mean. ...Right?”
“Huh?”
“The whole suic—someone has told you what happens at the end of Yuna's journey, right...?”
“Yeah. Get to Zanarkand. Defeat Sin. Duh.”
“And what happens to Yunie...?”
“Yeah. I guess they'll have to make a buncha statues out of her like her dad. Sounds like a pain in the butt to pose for or whatever.”
“...Oh. Geez.”
<Yeesh. Yuna did not pick the brightest guardians here.>
“What were you saying?”

"You know, the pilgrimage...It takes a lot out of you."
"Oh, right! But you know. Yuna's real serious about being a summoner. For Yuna, well the pilgrimage kinda means everything to her. You are going to help her, too, aren't you, Rikku?"
"..."
"So you shouldn't say that Yuna's sacrificing herself."

Rikku hugs Tidus...

And that ends the solitary “long” unique cutscene dictated by Final Fantasy X's affection mechanic. Yep. That was it. There's like a 30 second bit later on and one animation for Tidus' Overdrive is slightly different. Square had good resource allocation priorities back in the day.

4) Negator

Summons a Negator that blocks all magic and summons, but interrupts Mana Beam’s charge. Summons a Negator after being hit with magic four times.

Strategy

Burst Down the Crawler

Since the Negator prevents any party member from using magic, Rikku’s Lightning Marbles and any Lightningstrike weapon on Wakka are good choices for destroying it. The Negator will be in the air, so can only be hit with ranged attacks. You can have Wakka come into the fight with a full Overdrive gauge to take out the Negator or attack the Crawler directly.

When the Negator is destroyed, you will need to quickly burst down the Crawler, as it will begin charging its Mana Beam attack. A good strategy is to have Lulu’s Overdrive ready before the fight and unload on it with Thundara Fury when the Negator has been dealt with. You can follow it up by summoning Ixion and attacking with Thor’s Hammer. Continue pummeling the Crawler with attacks until it is destroyed before it has the chance to use Mana Beam.

You can also try to set up buffs like Haste and use Slow and Delay Attack to gain a speed advantage in the fight.
