How do I update my Fitbit device?
Fitbit occasionally releases free feature enhancements and bug fixes for your device through firmware and Fitbit OS updates. For details about each type of update, see What's changed in the latest Fitbit device update? and What's changed in the latest Fitbit OS update?
For troubleshooting instructions, see Why can't I update my Fitbit device?
Note: We release updates to all customers in phases. If an update is available but you don’t see it, check the app again later.
Before you begin the firmware update, charge your device and confirm you have the latest version of the Fitbit app installed on your phone or tablet. Note the following:
- If you update your device at midnight (when your step count resets) you may see an inaccurate step count for 24 hours.
- Updates may take up to an hour or more to complete.
- Let the Fitbit app run in the background on your phone, which allows a small portion of the firmware update to download to your Fitbit device each time your device syncs.
- Confirm you have the latest version of Fitbit Connect:
- Click the Fitbit Connect icon located near the date and time on your computer.
- Click Open Main Menu.
- Click Troubleshooting.
- Below the Fitbit Connect number, click Check for updates.
- Go back to the main menu and click Check for device update.
- When prompted, log in to your Fitbit account.
- If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions and keep your device close to your computer during the update. After you start the updates, a progress bar appears on your device and in Fitbit Connect until the update is complete.
- If you have trouble updating your device, see Why can't I update my Fitbit device?
Your Fitbit scale automatically checks for updates. When an update is available, the scale downloads and installs the update. If you step on your scale and see a progress bar, the scale is currently checking for updates. Wait until it's done to complete a weigh-in.
Thanks for your feedback.

This guide shows you how to update any Fitbit to the latest firmware via the Fitbit app and the Fitbit.com dashboard, and what to do if an update fails. These updates provide bug fixes, new features, and functionality enhancements.
How to Update Your Fitbit via the Fitbit App
The easiest way to update your Fitbit is by using the app. Before you begin, charge your device and confirm you have the latest version of the Fitbit app installed on your phone or tablet.
Here's how to check to see if new software is available.
Select your profile picture.
Tap the image of your device.
Tap the pink update banner displayed on the screen.
You'll see this banner only if an update is available.
Follow the on-screen instructions and keep the device close to your synced phone or tablet.
Avoid updating at midnight. Otherwise, you might see incorrect steps for the following 24 hours.
How to Update Fitbit via the Fitbit.com Dashboard
Updating your Fitbit via the Fitbit.com dashboard is a little trickier than using the app. You'll need a Bluetooth connection with your Windows or Mac computer (built-in Bluetooth or a Bluetooth dongle). Make sure you have the latest version of Fitbit Connect installed.
Select the Fitbit Connect icon, located near the date and time on your Windows computer.
On a Mac, find this in the upper-right corner alongside other dashboard icons and the time and date.
Select Open Main Menu.
Select Check for device update.
Log in to your Fitbit account if prompted.
If an update is available, the Fitbit will update automatically. Otherwise, you'll see a screen telling you that your Fitbit tracker is already up to date.
What to Do If Your Fitbit Update Failed
Fitbit won't update? Here's what to do.
- Make sure the battery life on your device is at 50 percent or more.
- Ensure your internet connection is reliable. The update will fail if the connection drops out suddenly.
- Turn your tracker off and on again.
- Try the firmware update again. Sometimes, a second attempt will work successfully.
- If you've already tried via the app, try updating via Fitbit Connect or vice versa.
If you can't see an update banner in the app, don't worry. That means your Fitbit tracker is up to date, and you don't need to do anything.

They served their homeland honestly for thirty years, and now they worked as engineers in the naval units: he is in St. Petersburg, and I am in my homeland in Sevastopol. Both have grown-up children and have rewarded us with grandchildren, the wives have already left for another world, and the new ones, three five years.

Realized my mistake only when I jerked again at these words and opened my eyes with the intention to look at him and say that I was no longer a coward, not his coward. I just had time to notice his grin, again, and feel his hot lips on mine. He pulled back abruptly, and my palm was burning.Fitbit Charge 5 review
But everyone in life has their own hobbies, their own secrets, their own. For me, this is bisexuality. I have a girlfriend, everything is great in sex, but I miss him.
