How to watch the Stage 3 Major

All of the Call of Duty League matches can be viewed on the CDL’s official YouTube channel. The CDL partnered with YouTube before the 2020 season in a multi-year contract for exclusivity on the platform. Some franchised teams, like the Seattle Surge, co-stream these matches to allow fans to watch together. Outside of that, each day of the Major has its own dedicated video to summarize the day of matches.

The match between Paris Legion and the London Royal Ravens will open the Stage 3 Major on Thursday at 12 pm PST. As always, the Call of Duty League begins its tournaments with the elimination matches. It will then move onto the winners bracket.

Seattle Surge versus LA Guerrillas will begin when the Paris Legion and London Royal Raven’s match concludes. After both Elimination matches finish, the tournaments will move onto the winners Bracket with Dallas Empire taking on Atlanta FaZe. LA Thieves will take on the Florida Mutineers to close the first day of the Stage 3 Major in the winners bracket.

Regular season[edit]

Format[edit]

For the 2021 season, the twelve teams are evenly split into two groups of six teams each. The season consists of five stages, with teams playing group play matches over the course of three weeks to determine seeding for that stage's Major. For Stage 1, the finalists of 2020 seasonDallas Empire and Atlanta FaZe got to pick which teams plays in which group, with Dallas Empire first getting to pick a team for the group of Atlanta FaZe, followed by Atlanta FaZe picking a team for the group of Dallas Empire. The team which was picked by Dallas Empire for the group of Atlanta FaZe then got to pick a team for the group of Dallas Empire, with this process continuing until both groups consist of 6 teams. The six teams in each group will then play each other over the course of three weeks to determine seeding, with teams being awarded 10 CDL Points for each victory. At each Major, teams are awarded CDL Points based on their final standings; 75 CDL Points for 1st place, 60 CDL Points for 2nd place, 50 CDL Points for 3rd place, 40 CDL Points for 4th place, 30 CDL Points for 5th/6th place, 20 CDL Points for 7th/8th place, 10 CDL Points for 9th/10th place and no CDL Points for 11th/12th place. For Stage 2, the top two teams from the Stage 1 Major will have the first two picks for the Stage 2 groups, repeating the same process before Stage 1 kicked off.[1]

Major Final - Atlanta FaZe vs New York Subliners - Stage III Major Tournament - Day 4

CDL Teams Solidify Major III Placings in Dallas Home Series

New York and Atlanta’s dominant run

The New York Subliners and Atlanta FaZe both played two matches during the home series and went undefeated. Both teams will start in the upper bracket during Major III.

New York’s first match was against OpTic Chicago. The Subliners dominated in the first two maps of the series, but Chicago stayed alive with a Checkmate Control victory. But New York finished the series with a 250-230 Moscow Hardpoint win.

New York’s second match was against the Los Angeles Thieves and was a slightly more competitive series. The Subliners started its second series of the weekend in a similar fashion with two map wins. LA did force Miami Search and Destroy to round 11 but could not close it out.

The Thieves won an intense Raid Control to take the series to game four and performed relatively well in the final Hardpoint of the series. But New York won the game 250-219, and Paco “Hydra” Rusiewiez led his team with 26 kills.

Atlanta’s first match was against the Seattle Surge, which is currently in last place with a 4-14 record. But Seattle did take the first Hardpoint map of the series thanks to an impressive performance by Preston “Prestinni” Sanderson and Jacob “Decemate” Cato. But Atlanta immediately answered back with three straight map wins to close the series.

FaZe’s second match was against OpTic Chicago and was surprisingly a less eventful affair than the Seattle series. Atlanta quickly swept Chicago and ensured the team will start in the elimination bracket in Major III.

It is also worth mentioning the Toronto Ultra as the team also won its one match of the weekend against the Paris Legion. But Toronto has been unstoppable for weeks and is capable of winning its second Major of the season. The Dallas Empire did lose one match against Florida over the weekend, but it beat the Minnesota ROKKR and maintained its second-place spot in the league.

Chicago will start in the elimination bracket

While New York and Atlanta dominated during the Dallas Home Series, Chicago failed to win a match. It was on the losing end against both of the previously mentioned teams and only won one map all weekend.

This poor performance ensured OpTic Chicago’s spot in the second round of the lower bracket at Major III. The team will face the winner of the Los Angeles Guerrillas and Seattle Surge match and will need to win five straight matches to make it to the grand final. The London Royal Ravens, Paris Legion, and Minnesota ROKKR will also start Major III in the lower bracket. These teams are more than capable of putting up a fight against Chicago, and the team will also need to make it through other teams that drop down from the upper bracket.

OpTic is more than capable of fighting its way out of the losers bracket, but it will have to perform a lot better than it did during the Dallas Home Series.
