How to Choose Your Wedding Dress Based on Your Zodiac Sun Sign

When it comes to selecting your wedding dress, there are a lot of different components to consider—such as the time of the year, your venue, and of course, your personal style. While you’re deciding between a ballgown and a sheath, there’s another aspect to consider that might finally help you narrow down the choices and say yes to the dress: Your sun sign.

“Your sun sign represents your core personality, but in astrology, the sun also represents life, growth, and abundance—all things brides want to invoke on their wedding day,” says writer and astrology expert, Sophie Saint Thomas. “The sun asks you to wear whatever will make you happiest. Your guests and partner can adjust to your order”

However, before selecting a gown based upon your Zodiac, it’s important to note that astrologist Natasha Weber advises using your rising sign as an indicator if you don't resonate with your sun sign. “In astrology, your rising sign dictates your appearance,” Weber tells Brides. “That way, you’ll still express an authentic piece of your astrological puzzle.”

The Best Wedding Hairstyles Based on Your Zodiac Sign

“Being unapologetically true to your star style means you’ll feel more comfortable in your wedding dress,” says Weber. “And someone who feels comfortable in what they’re wearing radiates beauty and confidence from the inside and out, no matter what sign they are.

Below, our astrologist experts outline what wedding dress styles are written in the stars for your particular sun sign. Enjoy!

Fire: Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius

Fire signs are well known for bringing the heat and drawing the light, and Weber says when it comes to wedding dresses, there are no exceptions. “Fire signs are more likely to take calculated fashion risks—going all out to impress,” she explains.

“As the first sign of the Zodiac, Aries simply have to be show-stoppers,” says Saint Thomas. Think daring dresses with some shock value, such as a sultry, strapless mermaid. “Thigh-high leg splits, and plunging necklines get the cosmic go-ahead for this racy sign,” she adds.

More is more and bigger is better for the mighty lioness, and Leos—ruled by the sun—are always looking to make an entrance. Saint Thomas says a ball gown with a long train is a style every Leo must at least try on. Weber adds that Leos could consider including a pop of color, either with their gown or as an accessory, to add some powerful pizzaz.

19 Colorful Wedding Dresses You Can Buy Right Now

“Sporty Sagittarius loves a dress they can move about freely in, so tight, suffocating bodices are out,” explains Weber. In fact, Sagittarians love movement so much, Saint Thomas definitely recommends leaning into styles that will play up the bride’s energy. “Opt for bell sleeves, long trains, chandelier earrings, and their hair worn down," she suggests. You might also want to consider rock flats or sneakers instead of teetering heels so you can stay on the dance floor all night long.

Earth: Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn

Taurus', Virgos, and Capricorns are all about classic elegance and style, explains Weber. “Earth signs sparkle brightest, playing it safe,” she says, so look for styles that scream sophistication and class.

“Avoiding a fashion faux pas is vital for conservative bulls,” Weber says. “Instead, they exude subtle beauty in quality fabrics that feel amazing and drape exquisitely on the body.” Saint Thomas says Taurus' will probably feel happier skipping a corset and instead, selecting a dress “that's chic, comfy, and sexy, such as a sheath gown with floral lace.”

“A dress that’s modest, demure, and understated suits Virgo to a T,” explains Weber. Look for plain A-line skirts, sharp angles, and modern silhouettes paired with expertly cut jewelry. And no matter what style a Virgo chooses, Saint Thomas says a highly skilled tailor is essential to satisfy Virgo's mathematic mind and love of precision.

Wedding Dress Alterations

The sophisticated, traditional Capricorn bride is “eternally elegant,” says Weber, so no need for oversized skirts or puffy sleeves—this bride will probably want to keep things purely classic. That said, Saint Thomas did note that Capricorns have “a secret devilish side,” so pick out some sexy bridal lingerie to match your understated style.

Air: Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius

“Cerebral air signs are likely to think up something innovative, like a veil that turns into a shawl or an overskirt that reveals a mini dress during the first dance,” says Weber. Whatever style they choose, air signs want to make a unique impression.

“Geminis are flirty air signs that love variety,” notes Saint Thomas, which is why she suggests this sign should budget for both a ceremony and reception dress. Weber also recommends something playful, like a ‘60s inspired mini dress, and urges Geminis to take their time and trust the process since they “might change their mind a few times before feeling on their favorite.”

Since Libra is ruled by Venus, the goddess of romance, Saint Thomas says they’ll want to lean into their beauty-loving ways. “Librans set trends, they don’t follow them,” explains Weber. This means whatever style makes you feel one-of-a-kind and beautiful is definitely the way to go.

“Aquarius shines brightest when she lets her inner rebel loose on her wedding day,” notes Weber. “A striking point of difference sets this bride aside from the rest.” As the most eccentric sign of the Zodiac, both experts agree Aquarians are most likely to break from the traditional, bridal white. Whether that’s a metallic dress, such as gold or pink (the color of love), don’t be surprised if you find yourself leaning away from more muted tones.

Water: Pisces, Cancer, and Scorpio

When it comes to being sentimental on their wedding day, no one feels quite as much as a water sign, says Weber. “Expect emotional water sign’s wedding dress to scream romance, Mills & Boon style,” she explains.

“True to her aquatic, ethereal beauty, the Pisces bride looks like a dream come true in a mermaid-style wedding dress,” says Weber. Additionally, since Pisces adore water, Saint Thomas suggests brides lean into that element. “Brides already need something blue, and in color magick, blue represents peace and tranquility,” she explains. “Wear a baby blue gown or blue shoes with traditional white.”

23 Something Old, New, Borrowed, and Blue Ideas for Your Wedding

“Romantic crabs love flounces, ruffles, and anything pretty,” notes Weber, so consider a Cinderella ball gown style paired with a sweetheart neckline. Saint Thomas also notes Cancers feel most beautiful when surrounded by loved ones, so consider integrating a family heirloom—such as a brooch or bracelet—into their wedding day style.

“Scorpios love mystery, so a Scorpio bride should absolutely wear a veil on their wedding day to heighten the drama,” says Saint Thomas. And Weber adds that a curve-hugging fit-and-flare gown “that screams drama” is made for a Scorpio queen. As for the color? Both experts agree: If anyone will wear a black gown on their wedding day, it’s a Scorpio.

I&#x;ve been an Allbirds aficionado for years. I gazed longingly at the wooly soft plimsolls that my then-startup colleagues wore for months before finally caving and ordering my own. Since then, I&#x;ve purchased pairs for every member of my family. They&#x;re my go-to airport shoe. My go-to I&#x;m-gonna-be-on-my-feet-all-day shoe. My inconspicuous but supportive shoe. But now, they&#x;re doing something new: They want me to go into the great outdoors.

Allbirds recently revealed its latest style, the Trail Runners SWT, a running sneaker designed for all terrains. SWT stands for sugar, wool, and tree&#x;the natural composition of the shoe. The $ sneaker&#x;available for both men and women&#x;is made with a Merino wool recycled poly ripstop material, which offers durability and thermoregulating properties. It also features an eco-friendly, extra-cushioning SweetFoam midsole (made from sugar cane) and a eucalyptus tree fiber-knit interior that&#x;s sweat wicking and created for all-day breathable wear.

The Trail Runner SWT&#x;s soles are designed to mimic mountain bike treads, laid out in a curved, bulbous texture, with placement inspired by artist David Hockney&#x;s swimming pool paintings. The design also allows the grippy soles to soften the impact of rugged terrain while providing cushiony and reactive traction. Allbirds says it put the shoe to the test, handing it off to the likes of pro runner Jorge Maravilla and running coach Iman Smith and having other runners log more than 2, miles on trail runs and hikes.

I am an Allbirds minimalist. I like my simple, clean Tree Runner in Kaikoura White. And my cozy Wool Loungers in a nubby charcoal gray, named Natural Grey. The Trail Runner SWT appeals to my sensibilities, as well as those who want sneakers that scream We&#x;re here! from the pavement. The shoe comes in a limited edition shade called Diablo, which is an an orangey-red and reddish orange that cannot be missed. The other two shades, iterations of off-white and black with charcoal gray accents, are more my speed.

I received a pair of Trail Runner SWT sneakers in charcoal-y Black.  They&#x;re exceptionally lightweight and feel just as softly snug as my other wool Allbirds. My partner wears Allbirds&#x; Wool Dasher Mizzles for rainy day runs and they feel comparable, with a sturdier base and extra friction via the elbow-macaroni-shaped treads. The likeliness of my running through the woods in the near future is . . . well, unlikely. But the likeliness of treading up and down slick subway platforms and icy Boston sidewalks is imminent.

Allbirds has proven to be thoughtful in its fabric choices, avoiding clogging up the environment with harmful waste. It also eschews manufacturing practices that pollute the earth. Still a key part of reducing waste is consuming less: We should only be buying things we truly need. The Trail Runner SWT, for me, checks a few boxes.  While wearing them, I can survive an urban landscape compounded with a New England winter&#x;and head out of the city for an unpaved weekend hike. They are stylishly minimal enough to fit into an everyday wardrobe, but also constructed to endure the elements, if need be. You probably never truly need any fashion item, but as a blend of form and function, shoes certainly come pretty close.

Last month, Ciara tipped her cap to husband Russell Wilson at the Met Gala in a neon green, sequined gown by Dundas resembling the quarterback's Seattle Seahawks uniform. She even borrowed his Super Bowl ring from for the occasion.

"Fashion is a big part of how I express myself, when you look at old photos and be like, 'What was I thinking?' But we have to continuously express ourselves and challenge ourselves," the singer told Keke Palmer on the red carpet.

Meet Spring’s Most Important Trends — For Your Feet

When it comes to a new season of trends, the most exciting and can’t-wait-to-try ones are not necessarily those that reinvent the wheel. It’s more about subtle tweaks to existing ideas or designs that meld two unexpected concepts together that make for the most interesting results. This is evident in the Spring/Summer shoe trends that have rolled out on the runways over the past month or so — it’s all about refining the best of the best.

The latest footwear silhouettes are ones you may have seen before, but they take on a whole new life — and inspire new styling possibilities — through the lens of some of the world’s greatest creatives. For instance, the classic loafer and clog return for spring. They have a comfortable, sturdy silhouette for those who aren’t quite prepared to switch back to traditional heels. Meanwhile, Fall/Winter ’s cozy plush-slipper trend gets a seasonal equivalent in zhuzhed-up beach shoes — yes, there are comfy, sunny days ahead.

As for options with height, the runway showed classic pumps, often in stark white shades and chunkyheels. Additionally, T-strap shapes provided a blast from the past but were styled in a way that translated far beyond the Roaring Twenties references. Unexpected footwear came by way of playful details: Think flashes of neon hues and lots of eye-catching textural elements used both subtly and significantly.

Collectively, the new shoe trends provide a balance to the Spring/Summer ready-to-wear options you’ve taken note of. Where collections championed the return of suiting, footwear followed with polished but modern silhouettes. For craft-inspired creations, shoes completed the picture with beautiful texture and color. Ahead, explore all 14 of the themes to know looking ahead to

Ankle Strap Heels

The delicate ankle detail made an appearance on heels in several Spring/Summer collections, including pump, peep-toe, and platform varieties at Coperni, Loewe, and Victoria Beckham. While the look is quite timeless, the ankle-cinched silhouette is made for pairing with a shorter hemline or, in the case of Coperni, patterned tights that create a camouflaged effect.

Linked Up

Heavy metals are a common recurring shoe trend, and chains were especially visible in the new collections. At Tom Ford, the designer placed heavy links across the foot and around the ankle, while Balmain’s straps resembled a linked watch bracelet. In true Chanel form, the fashion house’s signature woven chain-and-leather element acted as the strap on sweet ballet flats.

Hefty Loafers

The forever iconic, versatile, and often gender-neutral loafer silhouette was a choice style at Proenza Schouler, Christopher Kane, and Ganni. While the beloved, minimal version is always a good choice, these brands amplified the look with oversized soles and heavy hardware details for a less traditional take on a classic.

Let's Clog

Clogs are a somewhat divisive shoe silhouette, so consider Spring/Summer another season to love them or leave them. For those firmly in the former party, the runways of Givenchy, Salvatore Ferragamo, and Rejina Pyo make strong cases for the chunky silhouette with both sleek, minimalist pairs in woven fabrics and ones embellished with floral prints and logoed buckles.

Beach Shoes

Gabriella Hearst, Coperni, and Proenza Schouler leaned into the summery side of the spring season with their elevated takes on flip flops and slides that feature bright colors, embellishments, and puffy platform soles. These designs may be perfect for next year’s trips to the shore, but also proved to be just as fitting for wearing with suiting separates and crochet evening gowns.

Knee-High Lacing

If you’re a low-maintenance sandal-wearer, keep scrolling. For all else, feast your eyes on the stunning look of extra-long laces that appeared in the collections for Christian Dior, Prabal Gurung, and Staud. These designs have all the impact of a knee-high boot but in a warm-weather-appropriate package that highlights the shape of your legs.

Flash of Orange

Bright colors were in no short supply in the season’s new shoe styles, but orange — a notably daring shade — seemed to shine through. In a literal sense, the sporty looks from Louis Vuitton, Prabal Gurung, and Mark Fast provided the runways with a glowing tangerine hue on laced- and buckled-up silhouettes.

Next-Level Flatforms

If you’re looking for a shoe option that offers much more coverage, the dominant boot style of the new season is of the heavy-soled, flatform variety. In varying shaft heights, this heavy boot style appeared in collections for Givenchy, Schiaparelli, and Vivienne Westwood. It’s a look that will speak to the person who’s not afraid of a little extra height and bold attitude.

Strap Stacking

A recurring theme was evident in the collections of Saint Laurent, Versace, and Acne Studios: tiny straps that climbed up the leg in neat and tidy three- or four-batch bundles. The look is playful but still errs on the side of subtle due to the tiny strap size of the multiple-buckle shoes.

The Modern T-Strap

Roaring Twenties references aside, the T-strap sandal (often associated with s style) had a strong presence on the runways for spring. At Acne Studios, the silhouette included ankle-wrapping ties, at Miu Miu, metallic styles popped against tall socks, and at Burberry, the T-shaped strap ran like a thong sandal, next to the big toe.

Tempted To Touch

It can be quite difficult to appreciate the beauty of a footwear design through a screen, and even more so when it features textures that beg to be appreciated up-close. There were several brands that turned the volume up on their designs, including Fendi’s fuzzy, multi-colored mules, Altuzarra’s fluffy soles, and Maryam Nassir Zadeh’s straw-like fringe that gave a beach-party vibe to its heeled sandals.

The Quirky White Pump

Classic white shoes may have an inherently bridal feel, but that’s not necessarily the case with the quirkier options in the spring collections. This includes Bevza’s low-vamp design, Khaite’s flared-heel style, and Nina Ricci’s two-tone heels.

The Pointed-Toe Mule

The mule is another timeless footwear option that returns for spring, specifically in an elongated, pointed-toe shape that’s bound to work with mini skirts, jeans, and printed tights alike. What’s more, the stand-out mules appear in signature springtime hues of yellow, green, and floral prints, at Jason Wu, Prada, and Marine Serre, respectively.

Fisherman Sandal

From Rachel Comey’s woven patterns, to Max Mara’s metallics, and Hermès’s ankle strap flatform silhouettes, the common thread through spring’s most wearable sandal trend is the thick, substantial straps that enclose the foot. This look leaves ‘90s tiny-strapped minimalism in the past and signals the popularity of modern, practical footwear options.
