I know this is our favorite family to make fun of.  But, truth be told, this video is great and I am guessing the average BY poster can really relate.

    Hi everyone:

As you know, their show was a big hit. It was good wholesome family fun. If your cable provider does not have UPtv, you should demand it.

I DVRed the season and just watched the entire season a second time.  You pick up on a lot more things the second time through. As always, Penn is the star of the show. It has been great to see the kids grow up. They are becoming very talented. Obviously got it from their dad.

Hopefully it gets renewed for a second season.

Agree on the new video. One of their best.

While I think their videos are the opposite of funny/entertaining, I give them a lot of credit for cashing in that poorly kept secret in today's social media/video sharing world. You don't have to have talent or be good at anything, just get people to pay attention.

Ha ha, this thread pretty much went as predicted.  No talent, blah, blah, whatever aside...  This video is funny, precisely why any given humor is funny, because it is so true and relatable.

Tony Hawk & Holderness Family Team Up with Great Clips for Back-to-School Campaign

By the minneapolis egotist / /

Back-to-school season is in full swing, and Great Clips has launched one of its biggest marketing campaigns to highlight how the world’s largest salon brand helps parents save time getting haircuts for the new school year, so they can get back to enjoying the last days of summer.

Earlier this week, Bloomington-based Great Clips introduced a video featuring legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk and his 13-year-old daughter Kady, and today, the Holderness Family released a new original song about tackling back-to-school prep and getting the family in for haircuts. I’ve included additional details about the content featuring the Hawks and the Holderness Family below my signature.

Across the campaign, Great Clips is reinforcing the convenience and ease of checking in online via its website and the Great Clips app, to find their nearest salon and add their name to the queue before they’ve even arrived. That way, parents can spend more time crushing back-to-school errands and less time in a salon lobby.

Tony Hawk – World’s Greatest Back-to-School Trick

When Tony Hawk isn’t in Tokyo ushering in a new era for skateboarding or transforming the sport, he’s just a regular, everyday dad. Part of being a dad this time of year is helping your kids get ready for their first day of school and the annual back-to-school haircut, so Great Clips partnered with Tony and his 13-year-old daughter, Kady, to star in a new video called “World’s Greatest Back-to-School Trick.”

Tony’s no stranger to pioneering new tricks like a 900, and that trait runs in the family. The video shows Tony and Kady fielding questions at a packed press conference (while casually getting haircuts) following the Hawks’ latest amazing trick. Tony and Kady pulled off the world’s greatest back-to-school trick by using the Great Clips app to get Kady’s haircut before her first day of school.

The Holderness Family – Back-to-School Prep

The Holderness Family, content creators best known for their fun parody videos and vlogs, partnered with Great Clips to create an original and relatable rap song about all the things parents have to juggle and do before the first day of school including back-to-school haircuts.

Between buying school supplies and new clothes and trying to enjoy the last waning moments of summer, the video follows the Holderness Family as they head to Great Clips for their back-to-school haircuts and use the Great Clips app to check-in and save time.

Penn Holderness is our kind of Dad:  Self-deprecating, funny as hell, plays a mean guitar, isn’t afraid of going big off the diving board, loves his family….and good IPAs…and of course, Criquet Shirts.  We’re not the only ones who think highly of Penn.  There are probably about twenty million or so moms out there who feel the same way.

You see, Penn is “The Dad” of The Holderness Family, a real-life family from Raleigh, North Carolina well known on the inter-webs for their music videos parodying family life.   These videos, that Penn writes and stars in, are set to pop-culture soundtracks with a Holderness twist.  To say these videos have gone viral would be an understatement. They count their views in the ga-zillions.

If you’re new to The Holderness Family, here’s what we would call the “Holderness gateway drug” video about Thanksgiving Day family awkwardness.  You gotta watch it:

And here’s a classic about Father’s Day.

And the Fortnite phenomenon, which has a cool 25M views:

The list goes on and on.  But enough from us.  Let’s hear what Penn has to say.  Penn, what’s up dude?

Describe your personal style:

Pretty casual these days- Vintage Ts or Players shirts, vans, jeans. Winter time I wear a lot of Criquet sweaters with no undershirt. So, basically sweaters with B.O.

First concert, and how did that experience influence your current endeavors?

RUN DMC, Whodini, LL Cool J, Beastie Boys, Greensboro circa 1988.Transformative concert.I thought music was one thing, and I walked out realizing it was something completely different. And this music made more sense to me. More about self expression and storytelling which is basically what I do now.

Advice for Dads trying to pass along musical taste or abilities to their sons and daughters?

Maybe don’t do it deliberately. Expose them to as many kinds of music as possible, and give them the chance to love it on their own. As far as abilities, encourage them to explore an instrument early on without lessons. Be patient and let them get to know it on their own. If they stop senselessly banging on it like a demon and start trying to figure it out, it may be time to start cultivating the talent.

Favorite 19th Hole?Why?

Whoa. So many, and I have to pick one????I really would be more comfortable with a top 20, but if I had to pick one- Biny Karaoke Bar, 6th and Canal NYC. I don’t think I need to explain why.

We’re partial to your Michael Jackson parody video, “Who’s Dad?” (see above), but what’s been the most fun one to make? Most painful?

Most fun- An original song I just did called “I Didn’t Screw Up”about how all guys end up marrying up. We had backup dancers and a drone!! That’s hard to top.

Most painful-“Slime after Slime.” I had the feel and smell of slime and had to rub it on my face at the end. Then I threw up. And every time I think about it I gag. I just gagged.

You can pick anyone you want (alive or not so much) to cameo in the next Holderness video, who is it?

Kristin Bell and Dax Shepard. Package deal.

Most amazing place you have gone in your travels?

Hawaii. Particularly the southern shores of Kauai. Our whole family was really bummed when we had to leave.

The family you’d like to vacation with more:The Griswolds or The Fockers?

Griswolds and not even close.

Viral Holderness family takes on pro athletes in hilarious ‘Fauxlympics’ games

It’s all fun and games until you play an Olympian.

After it was announced that the 2020 Olympics were postponed to next year, comedians Kim and Penn Holderness — the couple behind some of Facebook and YouTube’s most watched musical parodies — decided to challenge real-life Olympians to a slew of silly competitions.

Throughout the five new videos — aptly dubbed the 2020 “Fauxlympics” — the dynamic duo, along with their two kids, challenge the world-class athletes to tournaments such as a Fruit by the Foot-eating contest and a penny-blowing race.

“We didn’t win a single one,” Penn told The Post. “We could never be Olympians.”

But despite the crippling losses, the married couple were in awe of each incredible competitor they spoke to.

“They were the nicest people we have ever met in our entire lives,” said Penn. “And ridiculously good-looking,” Kim said. “Like, we are so ugly compared to them.”

Each clip is preceded by a mock “opening ceremony” where Penn plays two toy flutes with his nostrils.

In the first video, the family takes on three-time Olympian canoeist Casey Eichfeld in a Fruit by the Foot-eating contest. But before they got the game going, they took some time to ask him a few questions.

“We had been talking to him for three minutes and he started crying, not because he didn’t make the Olympics, but because if the Olympics had gone on he would have had to leave his dog who has really serious cancer,” Penn said.

“He was like, ‘It’s just a blessing I get to be with my dog during his final days,’ and we were like, ‘Oh, my God what a punch in the heart.’ Plus, he was also really nice and good-looking,” said Kim.

Next up, the funny family challenged Sandi Morris, 2016 pole vaulting silver medalist, and her hubby Tyrone Smith, a three-time Olympic long jumper to a penny blowing contest.

“I was sweating so hard afterwards even though it was only seven seconds long because I was working extremely hard to blow that penny,” Penn said.

During their interview, each Olympian admits they had mixed reactions to the world games being postponed.

“I was actually dealing with a little bit of knee pain that popped up in February during a competition. And so for me, it was a blessing in disguise,” says Morris in the video.

But for her husband, it was a different story.

“I’ve been to a few Olympics, this was gonna be my last. So this was putting all of my eggs in one basket, trying to make a push to get to one more Olympics games. It was really devastating for a couple of days,” says Smith.

Despite the athlete’s kind temperaments, all bets were off when it came to winning.

“They were all very competitive — it was hilarious,” said Kim. “They were really sweet and then when it was time to go, they were not going to lose to these middle-aged people.”

“Once the competition started, they were a - - holes,” said Penn. “They were smiling and stuff, but they would not lose.”

The Holderness Family - Penn, Kim, Lola, and Penn Charles.

The pair also challenged gold and silver javelin throw medalist, Kara Winger, to see who could get an Oreo from their forehead to their mouth the fastest; three-time indoor long jumping bronze medalist Norris Frederick to a candy necklace-making race; and future softball Olympian Kelsey Stewart to a watermelon card darts game — where playing cards are used as darts against an open watermelon.

After the 2020 Summer Olympic Games were postponed earlier this year due to the coronavirus, the Holderness’ knew they wanted to do something in lieu of one of their favorite events.

“We were super bummed that the Olympics weren’t happening; we love the Olympics as a family,” said Kim, who’s been cranking out viral sensations like “Wash Your Hands” with her husband all through quarantine. “So honestly, we just reached out to the Olympic Committee and these are the people who wrote us back.”

All fun aside, the twosome were inspired by the athletes’ “shameless optimism,” Penn said.

“Even when your whole life’s dream has been crushed, they came into my virtual kitchen to play a stupid game, gave me some of their time and showed what the Olympic spirit is all about. It was awesome.”

And while they won’t be competing in the real Olympics themselves anytime soon, “I’m super good at napping,” Kim said.
