Palomino solaire problems

When you hit the road for a trip in your RV or camper, it’s important to know that your passengers and gear are safe aboard your rolling home away from home. Recalls are common in the automobile industry and RVs are not excluded. According to RV News, there have been not one but three recall alerts issued in July of 2020.

So, before you hit the road for the summer or purchase a used RV, it’s nice to know whether or not the model you’re loading up into has been affected by a recall. These July RV recalls affect various models, including Ram Promaster, Forest River, Keystone, Jayco, and Triple E units. NHTSA recalls may impact your RV.

RV recalls for Forest River, Triple E, and Ram ProMaster

July 6, 2020

For Forest River RVs, NHTSA issued a recall for specific 2020 Flagstaff, Coachmen Apex, Palomino, Rockwood and Sunseeker, Cedar Creek, and Columbus recreational vehicles. Additionally, some Real-Lite Truck Campers and Palomino soft and hard-side truck campers. According to RV News, there is a problem with frameless window glass adhesive failing and windows falling out. Also, there is possible incorrect federal placard information, as well as improperly vented furnace exhaust systems.

Triple E Recreational Vehicles is recalling some 2020 Wonder W24RTB, W24FTB, and W24MB motorhomes built on a Ford Transit chassis. A loose wiring connector may short and could cause a fire. This isn’t exactly what most have in mind when they think of fire on their weekend camping trip. For Ram ProMaster models, the side curtain airbags may not inflate in the event of an accident.

More Forest River RV recalls, plus Airstream and Jayco units

July 13, 2020

Airstream is a highly coveted RV brand. This summer, the bolts securing suspension spring may be too long. This may lead to the issue of bolts absorbing the load instead of the bracket, which could mean premature wear of certain Airstream RV parts.

Wonder RV

Jayco RV units are having problems with the brake hoses. Contact with fender liners could mean major problems related to brake function. Additionally, the leaf spring suspension is not providing enough support to affected Jayco RV models.

More Forest River RV units are also affected by this RV recall. There may be issues with appliances. A misdirected electrical current could damage the cooler or increase the risk of fire, according to RV news. There is also a risk of a punctured RV floor due to misplaced landing legs. Probably the most frightening of these issues is a drawbar and coupling fracture which could cause a trailer to detach.

Keystone, Jayco, and Forest River models recalled

July 20, 2020

There are Keystone RV models recalled for problems with antenna wing separation. This is a potential road hazard if it comes off. The NHTSA advises that this increases the risk of a crash.

Forest River travel trailer outside set up for camping

Some Jayco RV models, according to RV News, may experience an issue with the leveling system mounting bracket. A failed mounting bracket could mean contact with the ground. This might lead to a possible detachment of leaking fluids.

Another Forest River RV recall is also in effect for certain 2021 Riverstone trailers. An incorrectly wired generator prep could cause a back feed to the power cord. This could increase the risk of personal injury or property damage.

What should I do if my Rv model has a recall?

First, you should contact your RV manufacturer. You can also check the VIN of your RV model on the NHTSA website. If your model is affected, directions are given as to how you can go about getting the issues resolved.

Rear slide problem on Palomino travel trailer

We just got back from the beach on Saturday afternoon after a week on vacation.........when I ran the rear slide (bedroom) in that morning, there weren't any issues.  After a 3 hour drive home, I ran the front slide out (living room/dinette) without any issue.  Then I tried to run the rear slide out and pressed the switch & nothing......not a click, no noise, nothing.   I've checked the fuses at the battery, all the breakers and nothing is blown or tripped.  Are there any other possible inline fuses that I'm missing anywhere?  I was able to manually run the slide out with a crank handle and there was no binding to keep it from moving, just no power to it.  The battery is fully charged plus it's plugged into the house so it has plenty of power.  I even took the switch from the front slide & used it on the rear slide to see if the switch may have gone bad & that wasn't it either.  Unfortunately it's been raining this afternoon so I haven't been able to work on anything on the outside of the camper yet.  Any suggestions?

Problems palomino solaire

Palomino Campers are known as one of the easiest and most affordable truck campers to own, but also for having a few very bad negative flaws, as well.

In this article, you will get to know the most common problems with Palomino Campers that most users face or have faced in the past.

1. Poor Craftsmanship

Stating every single problem regarding the poor craftsmanship and manufacturing of Palomino Campers is almost impossible.

The carelessness and irresponsibility that is shown by the manufacturers are what enrage so many Palomino Camper users.

The list of problems with these campers can go forever, but here are the most common and noticeable ones that will directly affect your camping experience.

The Roof:

The roof of Palomino Campers is made with cheap plastics and materials.

Users mentioned that the construction of the roof was horrible, as in some cases, they did not even install it properly. The vents are not UV resistant, which causes damage and cracks.

These damage and cracks lead to further problems that we will address later.

Door Handles and Knobs:

Palomino Campers uses cheap parts and equipment that don’t last.

One such part of the camper is door handles and knobs, which get broken easily.

There are multiple complaints of door handles and knobs coming out on the first day of camping.

Windows:

Palomino Campers provide a lot of windows, but most of them, once again, are made with cheap products.

Complaints of broken windows, difficulty in opening or closing windows, and many similar problems are common.

The Floor:

The finishing of Palomino Campers is as bad as the goods used for manufacturing.

Floors in these campers usually don’t come perfectly stapled or hammered, causing it to lift the ground.

2. Improper Wiring Could be Dangerous

Bad wiring and electrical problems are the next most common problem in Palomino Campers, once again, an outcome of poor finishing and manufacturing.

Current leaks from multiple electrical boards, wires melting, irregular power supply, etc. are among the most common problems related to bad wiring.

3. Leaks Can be Frustrating as Well as Dangerous

Leaks are a common problem in not only Palomino Campers but generally in every camper.

However, the difference between other campers and Palomino Campers is that leaks are usually minor and fixable in other campers.

In Palomino Campers, these problems can ruin your entire camping experience, and they are also not easily fixable.

Water tank and water pump leaks are pretty usual, but other than that, these are the most common leaking issues.

The Roof, Again:

This goes back to the first problem, which is poor manufacturing and craftsmanship.

Leaks in the roof usually occur due to two main reasons:

  1. Firstly, it may occur because of improper fitting or installation of the roof.
  2. Secondly, it could be the outcome of damage and cracks on the roof.

However, the manual does say to check the roof every 90 days, but even after checking, you won’t find any problems until the time it starts leaking again.

Air Conditioner & LED Lights:

Some users complain that in heavy rainfall or storm, the AC starts dripping water.

Combining this with the roof leak, it can be a huge mess in a very little time. A lot of people also mention not only the AC but leaks in LED lights.

This is not just a matter of hassle or frustration, as water dripping from these electrical appliances can prove to be very dangerous as well.

4. Unhelpful Customer Service

Everything up to this point can be fixed and excused if the customer support team is adequate.

Unfortunately, the customer support team of Palomino Campers is not what the customer needs and requires considering all the previous problems we just talked about.

Unlike a few other customer support services of other companies, who are outright rude and disrespectful, the Palomino campers’ team are not helpful, that’s all.

Ineffective Services:

Customers complain that after getting their problems and camper’s parts fixed by them, the problems usually come back again after just a few days, depending on when they decide to use it again for camping.

Not only this, in some cases, the campers come back with more problems than it left with.

Another concerning issue with the customer support team of Palomino is that they refuse to admit that anything is wrong with the camper.

Sometimes, this is a fair excuse for customers with unreasonable demands, but some customers have actual issues that the team refuses to fix or even admit.

Unresponsive Team:

Not a lot of people have complained about this, but there are some branches of Palomino that do not respond to their customers.

Even if they respond, the customers do not get any resolution, in some cases, for years.

General Pros and Con for the Palomino Campers

Pros:

Users of Palomino Campers always rave about the storage space and capacity of the camper.

There are plenty of drawers and storage compartments, probably more than you need. It also features a storage compartment under the queen size mattress.

The living space inside of a Palomino Camper is also impressive. You can collapse a few items in the campers like the table to get extra space. Regarding space, the queen size mattress is large enough to fit three people comfortably.

Users of Palomino Camper are also impressed by the refrigerator inside the camper. The fridge is spacious, which allows people to bring more items. It can also run with AC, DC, or gas, depending on what you prefer.

The camper has many windows and ventilation options, allowing plenty of outside natural light to enter.

People also like the outside shower on the camper. It is convenient as it allows you to shower pets, if you have any, or wash off any part of the truck. It also features a hot water setting.

One can lift the electric roof or hitch up in Palomino Campers with just the use of a remote. It provides extra space in terms of height.

Palomino Campers are known for its convenient and easy to use functions and mechanisms, and also for being one of the most affordable pop-up campers.

Cons:

  • Very poor craftsmanship from the manufacturer’s end.
  • Improper wiring of Palomino Campers could be dangerous.
  • Leaks in Palomino Campers can be frustrating as well as dangerous.
  • Unhelpful customer service makes everything worse.

What Do the Reviews Say?

“As you can see, going used has its benefits. You don’t have to take out a second mortgage to build an impressive overland adventure rig. This rig provides all the evidence that you need that it can be done if you can find the right truck and the right camper. It just takes research and patience.”

[Source:truckcamperadventure.com]

This is a review from a couple who bought a used Palomino Camper instead of a new one. According to them, putting time in research and studying the market to buy a used camper is still a better option than spending a lot of money on a new one.

They had to spend a total of $33,000 to get a great Palomino Camper, which provides all the evidence why breaking the bank is not necessary to get a new pop-up camper for your needs.

“Palomino was the brand that people turned to for cheap truck campers, used for weekend hunting and fishing trips, and with minimal expectation for product quality or longevity.”

[Source: truckcampermagazine.com]

Truck Camper Magazine states that people used to think, and some still do, that Palomino Campers are cheap truck campers without any actual quality or longevity.

Although this was true back in the day, Palomino Campers have increased their quality and features considerably after the 2014 redesign. Now, people have to get rid of this idea that these Campers are not good enough.

According to them, there are only a few other campers in the market that offer better value than Palomino Campers.

What’s the Resale Value On Palomino Campers?

Final Thoughts

Overall, it seems like investing in a brand new Palomino Camper is a loss, but buying an old or used camper may seem reasonable, depending on your needs and expectations.

SmileSolaire by Palomino

We are looking at a 2017 Palomino SOLAIRE ULTRA LITE 312TSQBK.
We currently have a 2016 Forest River Flagstaff 26rlws but need more room for the grands.
Can anyone give us info on or about the quality of the Solaire? I can't find any reviews on the above unit.
Thanks in advance!

We bought a new Solaire 202RB last May. We love it. My impression on initial quality is it is above most of the rest. We had a few problems like a latch on a cabinet that was loose. The bottom of the shower door was not sealed so water flowed out on the first shower but a little clear silicone fixed that issue. We had one small water leak from the shower valve but I just tightened a clamp and that fixed that. Overall we've been very happy with ours. No matter who's you buy you will have a few to a lot of problems. Its just the way it is in the RV world.

The interior finishes were way better done than several other makes we looked at. We felt the dark wood interior was way too dark and got the lighter finishes. My wife actually talked me into it and she was right! WAY better choice than the dark wood for us anyway.

I changed from one 12 volt battery to 2 6 volters and I swapped out the battery charger for a 40 amp Xantrex because we sometimes boondock and the Xantrex will charge the batteries WAY better than the factory one using our little generator. Works real good now. I also installed 2 7 gallon propane tanks instead of the little ones it came with. Also has an aluminum frame (no wood) and a sealed under belly which we like.

It seems well thought out with the placement of switches and lights, tank capacities, etc.

One big improvement we did was to install a small marine battery cutoff switch on the frame near the batteries so we can cut them off when in storage. That way they don't go flat from all the parasitic loads in these new trailers when not in use. Ours uses .5 to .7 amp draw with nothing on so it WILL drain the batteries down over a few days if you don't unhook a battery lead or install a switch.

Like I said, very few problems and mostly way better finished off the line than all those we looked at.

We found it was worth our time and expense to go to Texas to buy it. We found Empire RV just east of Houston having the best pricing on Solaires in the nation by a long shot. Don't know if they still handle them but it was worth our time to go there. We just made it our first trip on the way home. We did camp in Houston for 2 days just to make sure things were OK before we hit the road though.

Glad to hear that you like the 202rb. Empire RV does indeed still sell this model....

I'm going out there in a couple of weeks to direct compare the 202rb to the Forest River Salem Hemisphere Hyper-Lyte 22RBHL... currently my two favorite floor plans.
